Indian thorny bamboo
The Indian thorny bamboo is the largest species of the genus Bambusa, with vines up to 40 meters high and 25 cm thick. The species produces sharp thorns and black stems that turn green. Young shoots are cooked and eaten as a vegetable in India and China, while the old stems are used for construction purposes. It’s a tropical bamboo which mainly grows close to rivers in humid forests, so the species can be kept as a houseplant in a temperate climate.
