Description:
The mountain papaya can resist lower temperatures compared to similar, common papaya species, because of its habitat at 3.000 metres in the Andes. For that reason, it’s possible to cultivate your own papaya’s in colder climates, preferably in a tub or container. In summer, you can move the plant to a sunny spot in the garden, and leave it there during the winter when the temperature stays between 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. The fruits are about 5 cm wide and change colour to yellow when they’re ripe. The fruit flesh is juicy, sour and smells very fruity. It’s often eaten as a vegetable, but sometimes also fresh from the tree or even processed into soft drinks.

Germination instructions:
Germinate the seeds in sowing mix at a temperature between 20 and 25 degC. Keep the soil constantly moist and cover it with foil or glass.

Alex Ho (07-04-2017) FullFullEmptyEmptyEmpty Volgens mij doe ik iets verkeerd, maar na een maand zijn de zaden nog steeds niet gekiemd. Ik ben een beetje teleurgesteld.

D. de Frens (24-05-2016) FullFullFullFullFull De zaden zijn gekiemd in 2 weken, 11 van de 12 zaden zijn ontkiemd en ik ben er zeer tevreden over.

Henk van Tol (09-02-2015) FullFullFullFullFull De Papaja kiemen zijn alle nog in leven beginnen aan hun tweede bladpaar te vormen moet ze nog wel oppotten.
