Common name:
Wild Banana

Western Africa

This is quite a rare banana species from the tropical regions of West Africa. It grows along forest edges, often on steep slopes, so it is not endangered despite the small population. It is a tall plant which can be up to 4 meters high, which also has red stems at the base of each leaf.

As a house-, greenhouse or container plant, the species remains rather small. Overwintering is possible at a temperature of at least 12 degrees Celsius.

Germination instructions:
First scarify the seeds with some sand paper and then let them soak in lukewarm water for 48 hours. Sow them in sowing mix and let them germinate at 25-30 degC. Keep the soil constantly moist.

Sowing time:
All year round
