Blue jacaranda

5 degC

The jacaranda is a beautiful subtropical species with an overwhelmingly and lengthy inflorescence of blue/purple flowers. The flowers are 5 cm each, but grow in trusses of about 30 cm which make the whole tree seem blue/purple. Also the composed pinnate leaves are very elegant and can be about 45 cm each. The tree (especially young individuals) cannot endure frost, so must be kept inside during the winter at a minimum of 5 degC. Older trees can endure slightly colder temperatures.

Sowing description:

Soak the seeds overnight in lukewarm water, then sow them superficially in sowing mix. Keep the soil constantly moist, cover the soil with foil or plastic and let the seeds germinate at a warm and bright stand. Germination normally occurs after 3 to 5 weeks.
