Product description

The black peanut is an unusual appearance due to the black cover of the seeds instead of the normal brown cover. This variety was first grown in the 19th century by the African community in the US as an alternative to Bambaranut (Vigna subterranea). That is a well known aphrodisiac in Africa that can only grow in tropical circumstances. The black peanut on the other hand grew very well in the USA, but did not have the same effect of course. The black peanut plant grows well indoors and produces flowers after a few months already. You can pollinate these by hand with a small paint brush. Then, then the stems will grow downwards and dig themselves into the soil. Under the ground peanuts will develop that can be harvested after a while. These peanuts have a sweet taste and should be dried first before roasting them.

Sowing description: Sow at room temperature in sowing mix. Keep the soil conintously moistened.
